SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse Review

Today, we’re writing our SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse review and we’re discussing this wireless gaming mouse from SteelSeries.

Normally, we don’t consider high-end eSports mice as portable products, but that’s what the Prime Mini is. It sports a lightweight ergonomic design that works smoothly and efficiently. The Prime Mini is compact and smaller than other similar products, yet it works just like how it should.

Continue reading our SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse review to learn more about the product. We’ll give you information about its design, features, functions, specs, and its performance.

We’ll begin our SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse review by looking at its packaging and contents.

The mouse arrived in your usual cardboard box that featured the product in front, its name, and the company’s branding. SteelSeries opted for a grey and orange theme for their package which looks pretty basic and isn’t an eyesore.

Inside, you’ll find the mouse together with other extras that SteelSeries included. These are the charging cable (USB A to C), wireless extender, wireless dongle (USB Type-C), plus a quick start guide.

SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse Review – Design and Functionality

These are important aspects of the mouse that we’ll discuss in our SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse review. The Prime Mini Wireless sports a conventional and straightforward design with a subtle logo on its palm rest. Then on its scroll wheel, you’ll find an RGB lighting zone.

The mouse has customisable lighting along the scroll wheel’s rim which is pretty cool. Additionally, the company also colour-coded each of its DPI levels, giving you a clear and neat indicator.

For its form, the mouse comes with a comfy, right-handed profile yet it’s smaller compared to the standard Prime. That means, the mouse is ideal for those with smaller hands. But if you have big hands and prefer smaller mice, then this will still be good for you.

When it comes to its grip style, we’d say the mouse is perfect for palm and claw grips.

Additionally, the Prime Mini Wireless features the same textured plastic surface as its full-sized version. The surface is referred to by SteelSeries as the “VD139 Tactile Microtexture Body”. It refers to the surface finish’s rating standard given by the “Society of German Engineers”.

Continuing our SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse review, the feet on this product are white-dyed pure Teflon PTFE feet. Thus, you can expect a very good glide when using it.

The ring along its sensor guarantees that the CPI retains its consistency when applying vertical pressure. That means, the indents located next to its feet are much easier to remove.

Key Features of the SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse

Let’s check out the mouse’s key aspects in our SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse review.

The First Optical Magnetic Switches on eSports

Other switches around get slow and spongy in time. However, the Prestige Optical Magnetic switches stay fresh and durable for 100M clicks, making it a highly-reliable switch to have.

Hear the Difference in Quality with Prestige OM Switches

The mix of optical sensors, magnetic connections, and oversized springs ensure zero lags and debounce. Plus, it also ensures a lifetime consistency of nice and crispy-sounding clicks.

A Small, Light, and All-round Performer

The mouse was meticulously designed to be much lighter and in a smaller, more compact profile. Despite the form, it still retains the signature form-fitting ergonomic shape of the original Prime. Plus, it still has that cutting-edge technology that makes their mice eSports-ready.

Quantum 2.0 Wireless

This feature is SteelSeries’ cutting-edge wireless technology that features an advanced dual-channel optimisation. It helps guarantee top-notch performance that makes it seem like a wired mouse without any packet loss.

TrueMove Air Gaming Sensor for the SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse

This feature was designed together with PixArt to outperform any competition when it comes to true 1-to-1 tracking.

Also, it has tilt tracking to remove unwanted tracking tilt slams, angled drops, and quick flicks.

On-Board Customisations

On-the-fly and immediate adjustments are important for the pros. Plus, it’s always an easy task on the Prime line of products. Here, you can select between four polling rates and up to five preset or customised CPI’s directly on the product.

Doing this will immediately adjust to the settings that are ideal for the game that you’re currently playing.

Textured Matte Finish of the SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless Gaming Mouse

A new, easy-to-clean textured top surface provides a reliable non-slip grip, making it great for intense gaming sessions.

Pure Virgin Grade PTFE

The 100% PTFE glide skates under the mouse offer enhanced control and smooth, light mouse movements. These are designed to cover the major points of contact and pressure for optimal performance during intense gameplay.

Super Mesh USB-C Cable

SteelSeries’ new soft microfibre super mesh cable reduces drag and gives a lighter feel. With that, you can hit crucial shots. It’s also detachable so you can use it when you’re on-the-go.

This software was designed to keep your SteelSeries family together. It’s an app that offers software updates to the mouse, as well as updates to other features. Plus, it also helps you customise the mouse’s DPI and RGBs.

The companion software for the Prime Mini Wireless works just like how it always has. It sports the same clean and organised layout which is user-friendly. All sliders are easy to use and we love that all the settings are kept on one page.

On the software, you can remap all the buttons to media, mouse, keyboard, OS, or macro functions. For the macro editor, you can find it below the button selection area.

You can make CPI adjustments from 100 to 18,000 CPI, in increments of 100 up to five colour-coded levels.

Moreover, basic acceleration functions, polling rate adjustments, and angle snapping can be done here. Lighting settings are also present, and they’re just as easy to follow and set up.

The Prime Mini Wireless has one physical zone for RGBs, and this is the scroll wheel.

Other than that, there are three predefined lighting effects available. These are Steady, Multi-colour Breathe, and Colour Shift.

All of its effects can be customised further when it comes to colours and speed. If you’re not into all of the lights, don’t worry because you can disable the lighting altogether.

When we tried the mouse, it was able to keep up with our slow and fast shifts without problems. Plus, we were also able to hit moving targets with perfect and precise motions which was great.

Its punchy clicks meet the competitive standards of online FPS. Also, it’s got that excellent level of feedback which was extremely satisfying. Honestly, it was great to spot enemies with just a single snap of the mouse.

We tried it for games like Counter Strike, and there were no lags despite the mouse being wireless. Our gameplay went smoothly and its clicks were great. And with how well it was designed, we’re sure it can last a very long time.

We’ve been using the Prime Mini Wireless for more than two weeks already. It was fully charged when we got our hands on it. Until now, it’s still at 90% despite daily use for around 10 to 15 hours a day.
