ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset Review

ASUS has been making a lot of excellent headsets, and the ASUS ROG Delta series is no exception. But today in our ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset review, we’re going to focus on the third ROG Delta headset.

The ASUS ROG product line is known for more than a decade now, and they’re still one of the leading gaming brands today. Their signature gamer design offers an aggressive look, with some of the mid to high tier to have LED lights (Orange/Red or RGB).

The ROG Delta line was announced two years ago, and you must’ve heard of it. The original ROG Delta uses USB-C interface with integrated 4-core DAC. It also has an excellent design, offering excellent comfort and RGB lighting.

There’s another version, which is the ROG Delta Core. The ROG Delta Core is a downgraded version of the original ROG Delta, but similar in almost every aspect. While it’s pretty similar, it doesn’t have the LED lights, and it only uses 3.5 mm jack instead of USB-C.

The third and newer version is the ROG Delta S. Similar to the original ROG Delta, the ROG Delta S offers a few design changes that give more comfort when worn.

Like their flagship headphones, it also supports AI Noise-Cancelling microphone. Also, this is their first headset to offer a unique MQA decoding capability.

The ROG Delta S is one of the most comfortable headsets to wear, but more on that later when we get to the hands-on section. Also, the ROG Delta S now has a plastic design, which makes it lightweight, but still sturdy.

We currently have a black colour, and we’re expecting different colours in the future since the original ROG Delta had a white version. ASUS headsets overall are durable, and this is what attracts most consumers.

Before we talk more about the design and feature upgrades, let’s head over to the packaging section of our ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset review first.

ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset Packaging

The packaging looks pretty neat. The ASUS ROG Delta S came in a hefty box with a black and red theme, which is their usual colour concept.

At first glance, we thought that the box opens the same way most packaging does: pulling the actual box on top from the cover. But as soon as we got our hands on it, the front side flips as a cover.

The front side also represents the headset with a nice light glow, which shows how the headset lights up. There’s also the ASUS ROG logo located at top-left, while the model can be seen at the bottom left corner.

As usual, the letters use ASUS ROG’s typical shiny font, which represents that it’s a genuine and premium product. The shiny letters of the headset model can also be seen on both left and right sides, which is also a nice touch.

At the back, you’ll see all the headset’s features, compatibility, and all the accessories that came with it. Overall, ASUS has done an excellent job of making the box sturdy and including all the information we need without reading any papers.

The outside look makes it more exciting, but let’s get into the product itself and unbox the ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset.

As soon as we unboxed it, we saw a welcome message from ASUS written in sturdy cardboard. As we took off the cardboard, we saw the headset in a plastic container with a matte texture.

Underneath the plastic are the included accessories. The accessories are inside another small rectangular box, which include a pair of velour earpads, detachable microphone, USB-C to USB-A 2.0 cable, quick start guide/manual, and warranty paper.

Overall, the packaging ensures you that nothing will break even when it’s shipped from somewhere else.

Now that we’re done with the unboxing, let’s move to the design and functionality section of our ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset review.

ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset Review – Design and Functionality

The ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset overall is made of plastic. It’s also very flexible, but it’s built like a tank. By default, it has the leather ear pads, but you can switch to the included velour ear pads anytime if it feels hot.

Its new headband is now made of stainless steel, which is narrower and more durable than the previous generation. There’s also a thick rubber padding on the headband that keeps your head comfortable.

Adding any soft material that goes into your head and ears is always a good thing, and the ROG Delta S is one of the most comfortable headsets we’ve worn.

Lastly, you can adjust the hinges and determine the right size for your head.

The ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset comes with a beautiful RGB lighting on the ear cups that can attract viewers, especially if you’re streaming.

It can also be toggled in three different options. These are Soundwave Light Mode (Voice Reactive), RGB Wave, and No Lighting.

Toggling the lighting mode is very easy since there’s a dedicated switch located at the bottom of the left earcup. ASUS has really put a lot of effort into making people recognise the value of their products.

The lighting also isn’t protruding like many gaming headsets that have LED lights. In our opinion, it doesn’t look too much of a gamer-type, but rather simple and elegant-looking.

Connectivity-wise, the ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset has a USB-C cable attached to it and is non-removable.

Non-removable cables on headsets can be a nuisance if it breaks, but this headset’s cable feels very durable, as it is braided and thick.

There’s also your USB-C to USB-A 2.0 cable that extends and makes your headset usable on many different platforms. For mobile phones, make sure that your phone supports USB OTG.

Now that we’re done discussing the design and functions of the ASUS ROG Delta S, let’s move to the key features section of our ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset review.

Hands-on with the ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset

We’re now in the hands-on section of our ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset review. We’ll explain our experience in using this headset and tell you what we think about it.

We tried the ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset on games and music, and we noticed that it focuses mainly on the mids and more treble. There isn’t much bass with this headset, but that can be easy to add through equalisers.

Overall, the Delta S is very detailed and sounded so natural. The mid treble is balanced and not too boosted like on other gaming headsets.

The built-in quad DAC also contributed so much with gaming, since it provides extremely low background noise.

Having an extremely low background noise can be very beneficial on eSports titles like CSGO, PUBG, and other FPS games in general.

These games mentioned require high accuracy of sound because it heavily relies on footsteps, gunshots, and explosive sounds.

The ASUS ROG Armoury software provides you with an equaliser and more sound adjustment options that allows you to finely tune your sound.

You can get the Armoury Crate & AURA Creator Installer here, and select Windows 10 64-bit as OS. Hit “See All Downloads” afterwards to reveal the installer.

Overall, our experience with the ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset is excellent. Let’s break down our thoughts and proceed to the summary section of our ASUS ROG Delta S Gaming Headset review.
