BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review – Stylish and Cool

Today, our BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review will feature a spacious, airflow-optimised ATX chassis featuring signature BeQuiet elements. It also has pre-installed fans, ARGB illumination, and adequate space for huge components.

Is this product the ideal enclosure for your PC? Our BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review will discuss all the details you need to know before purchasing the chassis.

BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review – Design and Functionality

The Shadow Base 800 FX is an ATX chassis with a midi-tower design. It has a classic mesh front and clean, sharp edges, while its sides have embedded stripes. This design language resembles most BeQuiet PC cases.

The edge of the top and front panel features an angled I/O panel, where you will find standard I/O ports. These include one USB 3.2 Type-C port and two USB 3.2 Type-A ports. Next to these are the power button, a microphone jack, a headphone jack, and an RGB control button.

The primary panel is a notable element worth highlighting in our BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review. It is a tempered glass panel framed with a black edge and secured by thumb screws. The opposite panel has a solid colour and also has thumb screws.

You will find a removable fine mesh dust filter upon removing the cover.

Frame and Interior

The company opted for a frame due to its internal shroud to slide in the power supply from the rear. This design made installation easier when we used the chassis for our BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review.

Above the power supply are the expansion slots. Each slot has protective covers and thumb screws for securing them. You can install four 2.5-inch SSDs or two 3.5-inch mechanical drives. The placement of drives is standard: behind the motherboard tray and inside the HDD cage.

At the top-most section, you will find one of the pre-installed 140mm retail-grade Light Wings fans. It pushes air out of the Shadow Base 800 FX from the rear.

This chassis supports radiators up to 420mm in front, coolers up to 180mm, and GPUs up to 430mm. Plus, you can install graphics cards in the conventional or vertical orientation. Although BeQuiet did not include a riser cable in the package, you can rotate the PCIe bracket.

The Shadow Base 800 FX also has a clean PCB with pins connecting the cover to the front. It powers the embedded lighting elements if you activate the RGB lights of this chassis.

Beneath the chassis, you will find another dust filter stretching across the entire bottom. It is highly accessible, and you can conveniently pull it out through the front for cleaning.

Key Features of the BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX

Amazing Lighting

With its integrated lighting, you will have plenty of fun and creative ways to design your setup. The front panel has ARGB LEDs that offer multiple colours and modes, which you can synchronise with the motherboard. You can also use an ARGB controller.

Aside from the embedded lighting in front, the pre-installed Light Wings fans have ARGB lighting on their front and rear. These fans have a subtly lit ring at the back and a bright one in front, offering a stunning appearance.

Four PWM Fans for Perfect Airflow

BeQuiet optimised the Light Wings fans for maximum airflow and high cooling performance. Each fan has seven airflow-optimised fan blades that reduce noise-generating turbulence and guarantee superior cooling in demanding configurations.

Spacious Design Supporting Various Components

The spacious design made installation painless when we used the chassis for this BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review. Its generous dimensions allow installing radiators up to 420mm and do not limit your creativity. The chassis is also compatible with E-ATX motherboards and sizeable graphics cards.

High Airflow and Maximum Performance

The Shadow Base 800 FX is the ideal chassis for users who demand maximum system performance. It supports water cooling and has an air-permeable front and top cover. Plus, its dust filter is easily removable for cleaning.

Clever Cable Management for a Neat Interior

Another notable feature we want to highlight in our BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review is cable management. You can neatly and conveniently install your components, regardless of their number or size. The chassis has integrated cable bars to prevent clutter, resulting in a neat PC build.

Modern I/O

The Shadow Base 800 FX has a modern design for its I/O ports. Aside from two USB Type-A ports, it has a USB 3.2 Gen. 2 Type-C port for fast transfer speeds. It also features an ARGB controller button for convenient configuration of your RGB lighting.

Tempered Glass Window

The tempered glass window offers a perfect view inside your PC. You can showcase your high-quality components and stunning RGB lighting.

Hands-on with the BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX

We built a PC with this chassis for our BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review, and it was enjoyable. With its spacious design and intelligent features like the cable bars and rotating PCI e bracket, installing components was a breeze. A 420mm radiator was also easy to install in front or at the top due to the adequate space inside.

The Shadow Base 800 FX also had plenty of room for cable management, even when installing the huge compatible components.

After building our PC, we tested its thermal and acoustic performance by performing various tasks. Note that the test results in our BeQuiet Shadow Base 800 FX Review may differ depending on multiple factors. These include the components, environment temperature, tasks performed, etc.

We were impressed since the Shadow Base 800 FX lived up to its company’s name. It was dead silent when we ran the CPU cooler and fans at maximum speed.

When we added the GPU to the mix, its noise increased but remained reasonable. The acoustic results proved the excellent engineering of the chassis and its fans. Also, the sound-dampening foam helped reduce the noise from these fans.

The thermal results were also as impressive as the noise levels. The GPU temperature did not exceed 67°C, and the CPU was not higher than 53°C.

The Shadow Base 800 FX delivered excellent overall performance during our tests. It kept the temperatures of our components low, and its fans provided adequate airflow while minimising noise.
