Today in our Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse Review, we will be looking at a mouse that’s a direct upgrade to its wired predecessor: the highly-acclaimed Logitech G502 HERO gaming mouse. Given the legacy of this mouse, is there any more reason to upgrade?
In this review, we will give our take as to why the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse just might be one of the best wireless gaming mice out there in the market today. Let us begin.
Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse Packaging
First of all, in this section of our Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse review, we will take a look at the packaging of the G502.
The Logitech G502 comes in a simple grey box, wrapped with clear plastic.
The Mouse model G502 is visibly written in blue text with the mouse itself acting as the centrepiece. All of this stands out against the plain, grey background. The simpler design means there’s more emphasis on the product. The illustration caught our eye immediately.
At the back though, is a different story. To prevent clutter in the front, all the important information is written at the back of the box. These are things like the weight system, some warranty information, the type of sensor used, the DPI, etc.
The packaging opens with ease, with only the clear plastic wrap to cut. The whole package feels secure though, owing perhaps to Logitech’s excellent packaging design choices. After removing the seal, just lift the top section upwards and you can get all the goodies inside. Again, pretty simple.
Immediately, the G502 takes centre stage. The mouse is enveloped by a plastic mould, giving it a sealed, airtight feeling. Although the mouse itself is easy to remove, the packaging is immune to shaking and potential damage during shipping, especially when inside.
Once the mouse is lifted, a clear plastic sheet is present at the bottom. Once you remove the plastic mould holding the mouse, all of the additional accessories can be found.
The dongle and the extra weights are located in a nice little container at the centre top of this section. It also has the Logitech manual and warranty information. Overall, it is well-designed and has an economical space-saving layout.
Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse Design and Functionality
In this section of our Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse review, we will take a look at the overall design of the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse and its various functionalities.
The mouse is designed to have the smallest delay as possible, a one-stop wireless solution for gaming enthusiasts everywhere. With almost no delay compared to a wired solution and very little interference. Two of the main issues while going wireless are effectively resolved.
The Logitech G502 Gaming Mouse performs just as well as its predecessor, the G502 Hero, if not, even better. Plus, you don’t have to deal with all the cable management. This gives your setup a cleaner look.
It also serves as your everyday mouse, not just for gaming. Whether you are relaxing and doing work at a coffee shop, the sensor works on virtually any surface. And thanks to being wireless, you don’t have to be sitting in front of a PC to fully utilise the mouse.
Key features of the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse
In this section of our Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse review, we will talk about all the defining features that make the Logitech G502 ahead of its class.
Ultra-fast Response and Low Latency
Thanks to Logitech’s lightspeed technology, the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse boasts almost non-existent delay, even vs a wired connection. A statistic integral to any gaming enthusiast.
Logitech G Powerplay Wireless Charging System
This new and innovative technology by Logitech allows wireless charging via your mousepad. Without having to worry about charging it, you can virtually use your Logitech G502 Gaming Mouse unplugged endlessly.
Logitech Gaming Software
The Logitech Gaming software promoted in their website gives you the option to adjust the mouse according to your unique needs and preferences. From the RGB colours, custom key bindings, to DPI settings, the Logitech Gaming software can change it. Also, the GUI is intuitive and easy to use.
Fully changeable RGB Lighting
Speaking of lighting, you can customise the lights of your gaming mouse to your preference through the Logitech gaming software. You can even adjust the brightness of the RGB lighting for aesthetics and lighting purposes.
Professional-Grade Optical Sensors
Highly regarded even by eSports competitors, the HERO 16k Sensor has zero acceleration and can work on virtually any surface. It boasts a 400+ IPS tracking speed across all DPI settings. This ensures accurate and smooth mouse movements, and potentially make the difference in your game.
Lightweight and Well-engineered
To preserve the exterior of the mouse akin to that of its well-acclaimed predecessor, Logitech had to redesign the internals of the mouse to accommodate the innovations. The resulting build turned out to be lighter than the G502 Hero. In case that wasn’t enough, the G502 Wireless also includes an additional weight in case the mouse feels too light to the touch for your tastes.
The Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse has two buttons on the side, which can be bound via the Logitech software to any function or key that you desire. All of your important functions can be accessed by a click on the mouse, no need to reach for the keyboard.
Long-Lasting Battery Life
The Logitech G502 Gaming Mouse can last up to 48 hours with everyday use. It’s even longer when the RGB lights are turned off, going up to 60 hours.
In this part of the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse Review, we will take a closer look at all the specific components that make the mouse work overall.
The Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse has a length of 132mm. It has a width of 75mm, and measures 40mm in height.
The mouse alone weighs 114 grams but can be increased using the additional weight included.
With a resolution of 100 to 16,000 dpi, the Logitech G502 has superb tracking abilities, owing to its professional-grade Hero 16K sensor.
The highest acceleration speed is below 40G^1 when tested on the Logitech G240 Gaming Mouse Pad. Using the same mousepad, the maximum speed can reach around 400 IPS^2.
The Logitech G502 gaming mouse has lightspeed wireless technology. In terms of responsiveness, the USB data format clocks in at 16 bits/axis. The USB report rate is no different than its wireless report rate: at 1000 Hz (1ms).
Last but not the least, the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse sports a microprocessor with a 32-bit ARM. And in case there are any issues with the hardware, the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse comes with a two-year hardware warranty.
Hands-on with the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse
In this part of the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse review, we will take a look at our first and overall impressions with the mouse. We’ll also talk about how it stacks up compared to its predecessor and other mice overall.
We were impressed by what we’ve seen. We could not tell the difference between the Logitech G502 and a wired mouse.
Combined with proper placement for the dongle to ensure zero interference, we had a smooth and satisfying experience with the G502; a good sign for sure.
The exterior, similar to its predecessor, is quite ergonomic. The mouse buttons give tactile feedback when pressed, almost a springy feel to it. The thumb-rest ensures zero hand strain over extended periods of use. Given this, you don’t have to look at the mouse to know you are pressing the right buttons. Everything is placed where it needs to be. I’m glad they kept the highly-praised exterior more or less the same.
The lightweight means the mouse is a breeze to move around. But for those who prefer a little more heft to their gear, the additional weight is included that covers it.
The one gripe I’ve had with this is the lack of Bluetooth connectivity, which might hamper it. But since the dongle uses Logitech’s Lightspeed technology, it is a fair exchange given the huge difference in performance.
Is the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse a worthy replacement for its wired predecessor? The answer is yes. You get all the benefits of the Logitech G502 HERO but with no cables and with less weight. A surprise for sure since wireless mice are usually heavier than their wired counterparts.
When Logitech said they were designing the Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse to be the best G502 mouse ever, they meant it. And they delivered. With lightspeed technology making wired performance on a wireless mouse possible, it’s no wonder why this mouse has been used by many eSports organisations and has helped them win big titles. The results don’t lie— convincing statistic for sure.
Add to this all the features like Powerplay charging and full control via the Logitech gaming software, then you have yourself the complete package: excellent performance, superb ergonomics, an almost limitless battery life, and the convenience of being a wireless mouse. The Logitech G502 Lightspeed Gaming Mouse is surely one of the best gaming mice out there today,
