Astro A10 Gaming Headset Review – Design and Functionality

When looking at the A10 Gaming Headset, you’ll find that it doesn’t sport any fancy features on it. That also goes for the metal components present on it’s more pricey siblings.

But despite the more simple design, this headset is sturdy and sleek for a plastic-made product. It sports huge, box-shaped ear cups and a flexible mic that can be flipped to mute. These may be standard features, but they’re a good set to carry over.

The 3.5mm jack’s ubiquity lets you utilise the headset with almost any current console and a few mobile devices. And the included cable is lengthy, which even has a useful volume dial for quick fine-tuning.

When you combine this with the flip-to-mute mic, it results in something good. You’ll get a product that gives you tons of easy-to-access options for changing its audio settings.

This time, let’s talk about what makes this product special here in our Astro A10 Gaming Headset review.

This specific version of the headset isn’t that different from the other iterations of the A10. It’s a wired headset with a removable cable, flip-to-mute mic, and a durable core.

You’ll find 40mm drivers inside that give excellent audio soundscape that’s great for its price. And just like its predecessors, this version of the headset is just as sturdy and durable.

Quite interestingly, you can even twist and turn it far more than other headphones. It’s actually alarming to bend and flip one ear cup next to the other like it’s some audio contortionist. Plus, it isn’t also a normal way to use such products.

But knowing that it can handle such type of abuse brings a sense of relief. And you know that it’s built to last.

The minor changes and add-ons still puts the headset in line with the other A10 headsets around. And with the Call of Duty branding, this is what specifically sets it apart from the rest.

It sports a smooth blend of red and black hues that’s instantly eye-catching. It isn’t too gaudy and goes well with COD’s more colourful branding. The reds are used sparingly to add more emphasis and contrast.

Ticks on the right section of the product shows some form of kill counter. It’s often seen on helmets appearing in war films.

The Astro A10 Gaming Headset is nice and comfy with fairly large ear cups that fit perfectly around your ears. Aside from being well-sized, the cups are also nicely padded and covered with microfibre coating. It basically feels nice to the touch, and you can definitely wear these on for longer periods.

When it comes to the headband, it’s bendable and sturdy with a nice plush felt cushion on it. It feels good and it won’t give you headaches even when worn during long hours of gameplay.

And since they’re stable, the headset will definitely stay fixed and in place during gaming. However, do note that these aren’t designed to be worn for workouts. They’ll just fall off when you engage in more intense physical exercises.

In addition, the headset is also fairly breathable, and it’s all thanks to its slightly porous ear pads. But since these fully cover your ears, you’ll likely feel a bit of warmth during lengthy gaming sessions.

Hands-on with the Astro A10 Gaming Headset

This part of our Astro A10 Gaming Headset review is where things get more interesting as we talk about performance. We will know how good the headset was during our tests, and if it’s something worth purchasing.

During our tests, we can say that the A10 Gaming Headset offers impressive performance despite being an entry-level product. It was able to deliver punchy highs and solid low ends for any genre we threw at it.

The headset made it easy for us to determine the location of enemy footsteps while in-game. Plus, it was able to give a lot of kick to snappy guns in games like Overwatch.

For racing games, revving engines and screeching tires sounded awesomely crisp. Plus, we were able to make out slight changes in the tire’s noises when driving on roads to the beach.

The A10 Gaming Headset also came with excellent bass accuracy. Its low bass was a bit under-emphasised so we didn’t always feel the deep rumble and thump in action-filled games. Yet its over-emphasis on the high and mid-bass added an extra boost to the audio.

In addition, the product has excellent imaging. Its weighted group-delay fell below audibility point, thus, resulted in transparent tremble and tight bass reproduction.

The left and right drivers of our headset were well-matched in frequency, amplitude, and phase response. Thus, created a stereo image with precise placements and object localisation.

For treble range, the headset gave off a fair performance. So, it was able to block a few high-frequency noises like humming of close-by AC units.

To further complete this Astro A10 Gaming Headset review, we’ll now focus on how the microphone worked

The microphone is the A10 Gaming Headset’s most notable feature. Usually, we’d complain about the microphone’s quality when we test a headset, but this one was different. It was loud and clear, though there were times when it picked up a bit more noise than we wanted.

In our tests, the A10’s microphone was reliable. Our friends heard us in our voice chats even with all the in-game noise. It reproduced voices excellently with full and rich-sounding speech.

Astro A10 Gaming Headset Review Summary

The Astro A10 Gaming Headset is an excellent product that offers high-quality audio, durable design, and a great microphone. With this Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War version, the headset also comes with stunning aesthetics.

It’s a straightforward gaming headset with a bass-heavy profile that adds boom and punch to your action-packed video games. Unlike more premium gaming headsets, the A10 isn’t compatible with any software, so you can’t do further customisations. But the advantage of it is that it’s plug-and-play, so you can use it out of the box.

Overall, we were satisfied with the Astro A10 Gaming Headset and we highly recommend it. This product is available for online purchase from the company’s official website.
