ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme Review – Design and Functionality
When we unboxed the keyboard for this ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme Review, we immediately noticed its 75% form factor. It retains the same size as its predecessor, so it only has a few traditional shortcut keys and no Numpad. You will find Insert, Delete, Page Up, Page Down, the complete function row, and the Function key.
The board of the ROG Azoth Extreme has a robust construction with multiple layers. It has an aluminium alloy chassis, a carbon-fibre positioning plate, and an adjustable gasket mount.
On the rear, you will find the switch for toggling between 2.4GHz, Bluetooth, USB, and power off. The centre houses the wireless antenna, and on its left is the USB-C port.
Unlike its predecessor, which uses plastic feet for height adjustment, the ROG Azoth Extreme uses two pairs of metal feet. These conical feet stick on the two circular plates under the keyboard.
Another thing you will find on its underside is a removable metal plate that attaches using magnets. Removing the plate reveals the slot for the 2.4GHz wireless dongle and the paddle switch.
Keycaps, Switches, and OLED Screen
The keycaps of the ROG Azoth Extreme are double-shot PBT, which means it went through a double injection system. This process ensures the labels will not fade when used over time.
When we tested the keyboard for this ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme Review, we noticed the reduced roughness of the keycaps. Although they are less rough than the usual PBT keycaps, these provide good grip due to their slightly concave shape.
The RGB lighting system of the keycaps is customisable per key using Aura Creator. You can also synchronise it with your other ROG products via Aura Sync.
Underneath the keycaps are the ROG NX mechanical switches, which come in Snow (linear) and Storm (clicky) versions. These are hot-swappable with 3-pin switches, making the ROG Azoth Extreme compatible with many switches.
At the top-right corner of the keyboard is the tiny colour OLED screen. It can display the status of your keyboard, system parameters, or custom animation.
Key Features of the ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme
As we mentioned in our ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme Review, this keyboard is the successor of the ROG Azoth. It is also a premium keyboard with impressive elements, but is it better than its predecessor? Let us find out as we discuss each primary feature.
Impressive Build Quality
The ROG Azoth Extreme offers premium aesthetics and robust construction. It has an entirely aluminium alloy chassis and a metal frame with its distinct bladed pattern. The bottom chassis underwent 12 steps of intricate manufacturing processes, including anodising, CNC machining, sandblasting, and more.
Detachable Magnetic Feet
The ROG Azoth Extreme has two pairs of magnetic feet with varied heights to suit your preference.
Adjustable Gasket Mount
The adjustable gasket mount with a quick-flip paddle switch lets you adjust between hard and soft typing modes.
Extended Silicone Wristrest
The wristrest is silicone with an aluminium alloy base to complement the ROG Azoth Extreme. The ergonomic design provides firm wrist support for comfortable typing experiences.
Three Dampening Layers
The ROG Azoth Extreme has two Poron layers and a silicone dampening pad. These efficiently absorb vibrations while preventing the switches from pinging.
Carbon Fibre Positioning Plate
With the carbon fibre positioning plate, the ROG Azoth Extreme offers a metal-like rigidity and crisp typing. Carbon fibre is also adequately elastic to absorb shock and minimise vibrations.
OLED Touchscreen with Three-Way Control Knob
The 37.3mm OLED touchscreen can show the keyboard status, connection mode, battery level, and other details. You can also set it to display custom animations, system parameters, and more.
Tri-Mode Connection for Versatile Connectivity
The ROG Azoth Extreme works with ROG SpeedNova wireless. As a result, you can use the keyboard with near-zero latency when gaming in 2.4GHz RF mode. You can also connect via Bluetooth to connect three devices simultaneously.
Hot-Swappable ROG NX Mechanical Switch
ROG NX mechanical switches use composite POM material for smooth keystrokes and increased stability. The design of these switches also prevents dust intrusion. In addition, the switches are hot-swappable, allowing you to customise the ROG Azoth Extreme with your preferred switches.
Aside from their customisable features, these switches deliver superior performance. We loved these switches while using the keyboard for this ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme Review since they offered satisfying keystrokes.
Hands-on with the ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme
Before conducting tests for this ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme Review, we tweaked some settings on the Armoury Crate. This centralised software for all ASUS products only requires downloading a module to customise the ROG Azoth Extreme.
Although Armoury Crate is comprehensive and detailed, it is simple and user-friendly. The interface cleanly laid out all the customisable features and functionalities of the ROG Azoth Extreme. Remapping keys was straightforward since we only clicked on a key on the virtual keyboard and selected the assigned function.
We did not experience any issues while testing the Armoury Crate. We appreciate ASUS for paying attention to customer feedback and addressing the concerns in the previous versions of the software.
Testing the ASUS ROG Azoth Extreme was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, thanks to its pre-lubed switches, which significantly enhanced both typing and gaming.
The pre-lubrication of the switches resulted in smoother, more refined keypresses, eliminating the scratchiness often found in standard mechanical switches. Whether we were typing lengthy documents or engaging in intense gaming sessions, the keystrokes felt both fluid and satisfying.
The consistent smoothness and tactile response helped maintain comfort over extended periods, reducing fatigue during fast-paced gaming or heavy typing.
The keyboard truly shone when tested with fast-paced shooters like Apex Legends, where responsiveness and precision are critical. The ROG Azoth Extreme’s combination of high-quality mechanical switches and tri-mode connectivity made it ideal for split-second decisions and rapid inputs.
Its performance during high-speed gaming was exceptional, allowing us to quickly execute complex combinations without the slightest hint of delay. The smooth actuation of the keys provided a tangible sense of control and precision, elevating the overall gaming experience.
When tested at both 1000 Hz and 8000 Hz polling rates, the ROG Azoth Extreme consistently delivered flawless performance. The higher polling rate of 8000 Hz, in particular, allowed the keyboard to transmit input data at a remarkably fast rate, significantly reducing latency during gameplay.
This ultra-low latency proved especially beneficial in competitive games, where even a millisecond of delay can determine the outcome. Every keypress registered instantly, ensuring that no input was lost even when pressing multiple keys simultaneously during frantic action sequences.
Moreover, the keyboard’s responsiveness and accuracy were consistently on point, even under extreme conditions. In scenarios where we needed to “smash” multiple keys simultaneously, such as performing complex moves or quickly switching between weapons, the ROG Azoth Extreme had no trouble registering each input.
The anti-ghosting and N-key rollover features ensured that every keystroke was accurately captured, further enhancing the overall gaming performance.
This reliability made the keyboard a powerful tool, not only for casual gaming but also for competitive environments where precise input is key.
