Today, we’re looking into these finely-made earbuds from EPOS in our EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid review. We’ll see how the company did as they venture into new grounds with wireless audio hardware.

EPOS is a name that’s best known for its gaming headset. With their new product, they’re trying to bring that appeal to their first-ever true wireless earbuds. These are the GTW 270 Hybrid.

The brand created these earbuds for the mobile gaming market. But of course, they made it compatible with the PC, Playstation, and Nintendo Switch.

Are they a good pair worth investing in? Did EPOS do a great job with their true wireless earbuds?

EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid Packaging

No EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid review will be complete without discussing what’s in the box. But before we look at what EPOS included, let’s check out the packaging.

The GTW 270 Hybrid comes in a sleek and premium-looking cardboard box. It sports a dark theme of black and grey, and the front displays an image of the GTW 270 Hybrid.

Flipping the box, the rear gives you a detailed description of the earbuds’ features.

The side of the box gives you all the specifications of the earbuds and the platforms it supports. When you open the package, everything’s neatly and securely placed. It’s all clean-cut and nice, which is something expected from EPOS.

Aside from the EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid, the box includes a charging case and a charging cable. You’ll also find four pairs of noise-isolating ear tips in assorted sizes.

EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid Review – Design and Functionality

Let’s now discuss the design and functionality of these earbuds in our EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid review.

EPOS designed the GTW 270 Hybrid with sleek-looking earpieces that feature a rounded form. These fit snugly in your ears without any stabilisers or fins.

The back of each earpiece is a metallic-grey flat surface that displays the logo of EPOS. The hints of grey add more personality and style without making the earpieces look over-the-top or specifically aimed towards gaming.

Not only that, but the GTW 270 Hybrid is IPX-5 rated. It means that these can hold up to sweat and rain, but you can’t submerge them.

You’ll find a little button at the top of the GTW 270 Hybrid’s left earpiece and is facing forward. It works as the only physical control of the earbuds.

A single press pauses or plays your music; and, it’s also utilised to accept calls. Two presses will skip the track forward, while three presses will reverse the track. Pressing and holding the button brings up your smartphone’s voice assistant.

One thing that EPOS should have included was volume controls.

Technically, their choice of a tiny button is quite a surprise, especially when there isn’t much space behind each earpiece. Do note that the button’s quite challenging to find when you start using the GTW 270 Hybrid.

The charging case has a nice aluminium build which gives it a nice feel to it. We love its flip-top box featuring power LEDs at the front, together with a pairing/status button just below.

In addition to that, there’s a USB-C port used for charging on the back.

USB-C Dongle

For its USB-C dongle, it streams apt-X Bluetooth audio to the GTW 270 Hybrid. It’s a little rectangular dongle with the USB-C plug that gives you an L-shape.

The USB-C wireless dongle connection is something that we consider vital for owners of the Nintendo Switch. Those who use the Switch have lamented over the absence of a native Bluetooth audio solution. Luckily, the GTW 270 Hybrid does the trick.

You only need to insert the earbuds’ dongle to the USB socket at the base of the Nintendo Switch. And there, you’ll have wireless audio for gaming while on the go.

Hands-on with the EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid

Now, our EPOS GTW 270 Hybrid review will discuss the performance of these earbuds from EPOS. But let’s talk about the software first.

Gamers can get enhanced control over the GTW 270 Hybrid with EPOS’ Gaming Suite software.

There are a number of options available that adjusts the equaliser settings with your preferred preset values. You can also use the 7.1 surround-sound feature and the reverb to give it a customised effect.

The Gaming Suite is a free software for updating the dongle and earbud’s firmware.

Whether it was for gaming or listening to music, the audio of the GTW 270 Hybrid was crisp and clear. The sound quality improved even further when we used the earbuds on PC with additional tweaks via the equaliser. In fact, the sounds were great with these earbuds even when we watched movies.

We tried playing several games while using the GTW 270 Hybrid, and we were impressed with what the earbuds delivered. First, we tested the earbuds on standard stereo mode and noticed the clear and crisp audio. We were also impressed with the spatial audio, and we had no problems hearing opponents in-game.

In fact, the earbuds delivered sound like what you’d hear from a premium gaming headset. The best thing about the GTW 270 Hybrid is that they’re portable. With that, you can use them for mobile games or handheld gaming devices.

Aside from gaming, we tested it by listening to music, and we noticed that the audio sounded quite tinny. We realized that we needed to use the right ear tips first to hear the sounds at its best quality.

The audio quality for music was superior, regardless of the genre we played. The earbuds delivered low ends excellently, plus we really appreciate the clarity.

For the battery, the company claims that the GTW 270 Hybrid delivers up to 15 hours of battery life. To test the earbuds’ capacity, we used them to play different games and listen to music.

In our experience, it lasted for almost 15 hours, and we’re impressed that it delivered what it promised. These buds would be ideal for commuting, long journeys, and flights. Plus, these earbuds are excellent to use when you want to rotate between gaming and music sessions.

What’s best about these buds is they can get an hour of extra battery life by simply charging them in the case.
