EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO Review – Design and Functionality

Now let’s talk about its build design and the premium functions in this section of our EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO review.

The EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO has a touch display in the circular smooth plastic finish in the middle and a matte texture outside. The touch display is surrounded by the aluminium ring that you can spin to control the volume levels.

The EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO also looks simple and can be operated either by the touch display. The light-up display is also bright, giving no issues at any angle. However, it does turn off the light automatically if you don’t touch it for a few seconds.

There’s also the General Preset option located on each corner. It has built-in presets that can be changed or rep

Because of the touch display, EPOS|SENNHEISER managed to reduce the size of the device. Physical buttons are minimal, and the whole design is lightweight & compact. It also has the right weight, which sits between being heavy and light.

Moreover, the volume aluminium ring spins very smooth, light, and has minimal resistance. Most headphones or speakers with volume adjustments are stiff and have a limited spin lifetime.

At the back, you’ll find two daisy chain jacks, both of which are located on left & right. Next is the micro USB port, 2.5 mm speaker jack, 2.5 mm microphone jack, and 2.5 mm headphone jack. All of which can be controlled by the GSX 1200 PRO.

Since the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO can operate without software, you can save your profiles with this device. Touching it once will toggle it, and long-pressing it saves your current settings.

For the connectivity, it uses a 5V micro USB connection. You can easily connect it to your PC or Mac, and there’s an included red cable. The chatlink jack acts like an output, but it’s specifically for another unit of GSX 1200 PRO.

Essentially, there’s a microphone outbound control on the left, and a microphone inbound control on the right. This specific feature also makes it easy for you to adjust the microphone levels on-the-go.

Since the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO features a display with a touch screen; all the settings can be adjusted from there. Let’s now focus on the touch display first.

On the top-left of the screen is your Source Switch. You can switch between speaker out and headphones out with a single touch.

Beside the source switch is the Audio Preset. The Audio Presets are: Gaming, Music, Movies, and Default.

On the right side is the Speaker Orientation. Tapping it gives you an option to manually select which position the speakers are, whether the front or rear emphasis. This only works if you have 7.1 Surround Sound enabled.

On the left side is the Room Scale Reverb Control. This option changes the sound stage quite substantially. There’s an indicator of how wide the sound stage is set to, which outputs as a plus sign. There are three levels of reverb available, and it’s for you to test out depending on your headset. Again, this only works if you have 7.1 Surround Sound enabled.

On the bottom left is your Sidetone. This lets you hear what your microphone receives. This option is helpful if you’d like to do live monitoring with your voice. You can change the level also by tapping it, giving you three different levels.

The last option is located on the bottom-right, which is the Audio Channel Switch. This option is set to 2.0 by default (which is stereo), and tapping it once will automatically switch it to 7.1, as well as enabling reverb and speaker orientation options.

The EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO is best suited with open-back headsets, so we recommend you get one first. We highly suggest you get the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSP 500 or GAME ZERO, as both of these headphones have an open-back design.

Now that we’ve discussed the design and functions of this device let’s head on to the key features.

Specifications

2020 10 30 07 21 14 GSX 1200 PRO from EPOS Dominate the game with exceptional audio control EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO Review

We’re finally down to the technical specifications of the product in this section of our EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO review.

The EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO features Sennheiser’s Binaural Rendering Engine, Aluminum Volume Wheel, and Chat Link. Chat Link supports up to 8 individual GSX 1200 PRO units without any software involved. This delivers audio without any compression and quality degradation.

We also got an aluminium volume wheel and top-grade plastic materials for maximum performance. The EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO supports a number of sample rates, depending on what audio mode is selected. It can go up to 24-bit and 96 kHz for the stereo channel, but most gamers would be satisfied with 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound in 16-bit 44.1 kHz.

The audio quality provided on chat is 16-bit 16 kHz, but this only has a single channel (Mono). Just make sure that your headphones don’t reach above 150 ohms, or it might just not work.

Hands-on with the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO

Let’s get our hands on the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO. This will be based on our experience when using the GSX 1200 PRO with the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSP 500 Headset.

As for the audio quality, let’s first talk about the audio presets.

Upon testing the four presets available, the eSports Preset increases the treble and eliminates the bass. That’s because it focuses on FPS games for you to hear the footsteps a lot clearer.

With the Music Mode, it boosts the bass by a lot. While it is mainly focused on music, it sounded fine while gaming. Audiophiles might look into using this preset.

The Movie Mode probably isn’t best to use whilst gaming but it does allow for more immersive viewing when watching a movie.

The last preset is the Default. This is the best spot if you’re a general gamer and also like listening to music.

While the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSP 500’s microphone already sounds excellent, the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO improved it quite a bit, mostly adding bass to it.

The quality obviously depends on the microphone you have but it will improve the overall mic quality for you.

When it comes to gaming, we’ve enabled 7.1 Virtual Surround Sound and set the equalizer preset to Default. In our opinion, this gives the best immersive experience, as if you’re inside the actual game.

Our overall gaming experience with the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO is excellent. It gave us the best virtual surround sound experience.

EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO Review Summary

The EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO is easily one of the best headphone amplifiers available today. It provides a large number of features without bloating it with features that you would never use. The amplifier is able to drive your headphones extremely well and certainly does improve on the audio quality.

The Virtual 7.1 Surround Sound is by far, the best feature of the EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO. It beats all the headsets that feature 7.1 Surround Sound on their sound cards/software.

To conclude our EPOS|SENNHEISER GSX 1200 PRO Review, we’re delighted with what the product has to offer. The price is right for the features you get, and it’s a compact device that you can bring anywhere with you. If you’re looking forward to purchasing this product, head over to this link.
