Logitech Combo Touch Review

When you want a case and keyboard for your iPad, check out our Logitech Combo Touch review.

Here, you’ll get all the essential details about the back-lit keyboard from Logitech. It comes with a case with a trackpad, plus a Smart Connector for select Apple products. These include the 3rd Gen iPad Air, 7th & 8th Gen iPad, and the iPad Pro.

We think it’s one of the most useful and advantageous accessories you can get outside the Apple pencil.

Logitech Combo Touch Packaging

Our Logitech Combo Touch review won’t be complete without discussing the keyboard’s packaging and its contents.

When it arrived, the keyboard came in an all-white durable cardboard box that’s tough enough to protect the keyboard inside.

The front displays an image of the keyboard with an iPad connected to it. “Combo Touch” is written in bold at the top-left corner, with a short description of it underneath.

Above the image, you’ll find which iPad generation that the Combo Touch is compatible with. Beneath it, you’ll find Logitech written there as well.

The Combo Touch is neatly packed to ensure that it’s well-protected while in transit. Logitech made sure that the product is well-packed, so you won’t have to worry about acquiring any unnecessary damages.

Inside the box, you will find the Combo Touch keyboard case along with some documentation. The case has two parts: the protective cover and the keyboard area. The latter magnetically attaches to the bottom section of your iPad.

Logitech Combo Touch Review – Design and Functionality

Let’s now discuss the keyboard’s design and functionality in our Logitech Combo Touch review.

Starting with its overall feel and look, what we loved the most is that Logitech included a case to protect the iPad. Plus, it comes with an integrated Apple Pencil holder, which is great.

We’re definitely a fan of the keyboard’s exterior. It’s not only sleek and premium-looking, but it feels durable enough to last over time.

Keyboard

The Logitech Combo Touch keyboard links to your iPad via Apple’s Smart Connector. This means you’ll have an adequately reliable connection and won’t require Bluetooth. Plus, you won’t have to worry about the charging case as well.

It’s pretty cool since you don’t need to switch it on/off or even remember to charge it. The keyboard instantly works when you need to utilise it.

All the keys on the keyboard are back-lit and are evenly distributed for proper spacing. It feels like Apple’s Magic Keyboard, which is something we greatly appreciate.

It comes with an entire row of functional keys, making tasks like home screen access and adjusting brightness much easier.

Trackpad

For the Combo Touch’s trackpad, it’s technically a new addition to the product. In all honesty, we’re enjoying it even if we didn’t think the trackpad was necessary for the iPad.

The trackpad isn’t huge, but it doesn’t need to get any bigger than it already is. It gives a nice click to it, and you can utilise every gesture that you’ve probably used from a Mac.

You can readily swipe between applications, then swipe up to return to the home screen, and more.

Case

A sleek and durable case protects your iPad, though it adds a bit of bulk to it. The built-in Apple Pencil holder makes it advantageous for keeping the pencil when it’s not being used. Logitech also claims that the Crayon Stylus fits there.

Additionally, the case lets you easily detach the keyboard if you only need to bring the iPad with you. The case is entirely great but nothing crazy going on with it. However, it looks and feels extremely nice, so we don’t mind keeping the case on at all times.

The Combo Touch’s case sports a textured-grey finish with a thick set of rubber bezels encircling the iPad.

You’ll find widened cutouts specific for the mic, lightning ports, and headphone jack. Plus, there are additional cutouts for two extra speakers on the iPad Pro.

The surrounding rubber conceals the power and volume buttons. With that, you’ll need a bit of force to register one click.

Its flexible kickstand provides up to 40-degrees of tilt to let you work using the four different modes. These are Viewing, Type, Reading, and Sketching.

This time, let’s check out the key features of the Combo Touch in our Logitech Combo Touch review.

Key Features of the Logitech Combo Touch

An iPad Case for Absolute Convenience

The Combo Touch is the ultimate iPad case that comes with a backlit keyboard and a precision trackpad. With this, you can easily use your iPad as you edit documents, spreadsheets, and more.

Superior Precision

With the trackpad’s precision, you can easily and efficiently work in various apps like Notes, Numbers, Keynote, and Pages. Copying words, highlighting cells in spreadsheets, and editing emails will all be hassle-free.

Great Control

You can use the multi-finger gesture controls you already know to stay productive on your iPad. These include scroll, swipe, switch apps, double-tap, pinch, and more.

Backlit Keys

The Combo Touch lets you enjoy using your iPad even with the lights down. Its integrated keyboard features backlit keys that you can adjust by five brightness levels. With that, you can see what you’re doing in any low-light environment.

Excellent Design

Logitech’s keyboards come with more than 20 years of typing innovation to make your keystrokes accurate, fluid, and natural. When using Combo Touch, you’ll enjoy long periods of comfort while typing since it has large keys and adequate spacing.

Additionally, each of its keys have a scissor mechanism underneath, which gives the perfect bounce in each press.

Full Row of iOS Shortcut Keys

Perform simple actions with the Combo Touch’s full row of iOS shortcut keys. There’s no need to search for these around the screen or menus.

Automatic on/off

Opening the Combo Touch wakes the iPad and the keyboard. If not in use, all you have to do is close the case to set the iPad and keyboard to sleep.

Logitech Control App

Our Logitech Combo Touch review won’t be complete if we skip on the Logitech Control app. From this application, you can adjust your keyboard’s lighting, update firmware, more.

Four User Modes for Convenience

The Logitech Combo Touch is made to be flexible to work efficiently with any task. On Typing Mode, you can dock the keyboard upright, then remove the kickstand to let you type emails or notes.

For Viewing Mode, you need to remove the keyboard then detach the kickstand. Doing so will allow you to view TV shows and movies.

You need to entirely extend the kickstand back to access Sketching Mode. It’ll give you the best angle for taking down notes or sketching with the Apple Pencil or Logitech Crayon.

For Reading Mode, the kickstand should be tucked in so you can detach the keyboard to read articles, books, etc.

Hands on with the Logitech Combo Touch

This is where we look into the performance of the Combo Touch in our Logitech Combo Touch review.

When we first utilised the keyboard, it magnetically snapped in place and worked immediately right after. We didn’t have to bother with Bluetooth pairing, plus there weren’t any power buttons or the need for charging.

It just worked, and that’s all thanks to the company’s Smart Connector that’s present on the iPad’s side.

For its kickstand, it gave us a nice 40-degree tilt range, which is more than we’ve ever required. We can say that its hinge is free-flowing as well, and there aren’t any hard stopping points.

Typing on the Logitech Combo Touch is excellent. With the back-lit keys that were nicely-spaced, it was comfortable to use even during fast-paced typing.

There is a row of convenient function keys for adjusting the volume and brightness, to name a few. And these are features that Apple doesn’t offer on its own keyboards.

If you compare it to traditional computer keyboards, the Combo Touch is more compact due to its smaller layout. Each of the keys is smaller too, but it’s easy to get used to since the design allows for user-friendly typing.

You won’t feel any discomfort when utilising the keyboard. You can rest your palms on the grey material surrounding the case. We assumed it had a soft finish, but when we tried it, it felt like woven nylon instead.

It didn’t feel uncomfortable even during long hours of typing. Plus, we expect that this type of material can last and hold up for a long time.

Overall, we were satisfied with the Logitech Combo Touch’s performance, and we’d highly recommend it.
