Our Logitech G512 Carbon review talks all about this gaming keyboard from Logitech. And since mechanical switches on these keyboards are all the rage today, the G512 will surely pique your interests.
In the past, the best thing to have on a keyboard was a pretty-looking LCD screen despite it being useless. Today, hardware manufacturers keep in mind that gamers only want high-performing, quality products that are simultaneously comfortable.
If you’re a fan of Logitech and want a gaming keyboard that’s efficient and high-performing, we’ve got you covered. The Logitech G512 Carbon is a promising keyboard, and may just be the product for you.
The G512 offers the same robust and stylish design as the G513. It also sports the same customizable RGB lights and the same set of switches that are present on the G513. o
Of course, the company cut out a couple of extras to shave off its price. But the thing is, is the G512 Carbon just as excellent, and does it perform adequately as Logitech claims? Continue reading our Logitech G512 Carbon review to find out, but first, let’s look at what’s inside the package.
Logitech G512 Carbon Packaging
The G512 Carbon gaming keyboard shipped in a grey and blue-themed box with an image of the keyboard in front. At the front top, you’ll find the name of the product written in bold blue fonts. For Logitech and its logo, you’ll see it at the bottom left corner.
Inside, the first thing you’ll spot is the G512 Carbon itself. Aside from the keyboard, the only other item included in the package is its user documentation.
Next on our Logitech G512 Carbon review, we’re taking a look at the keyboard’s function, design, and build.
Logitech G512 Carbon Review- Design and Functionality
Logitech followed the basic design of keyboards for the G512 Carbon. With that, don’t expect any extras like a volume dial or media control. Its row of function keys also works as media controls, allowing you to alter the keyboard’s lighting effects.
The design of this keyboard is compact, and there’s little wasted space on its deck. This portion features an aluminium top and gives you a feel of durability and toughness.
For its price, it doesn’t appear like your typical-looking budget keyboard. Plus, its floating black keys provides an aesthetic contrast against the deck’s charcoal-grey carbon finish. As for branding, you won’t see much of it on the G512 Carbon. The only thing you’ll see related to it is a little “G” at the top-right corner of the gaming keyboard.
The bottom of the G512 Carbon features a channel that helps route wires beneath the keyboard. There are also six rubber feet present to keep it from sliding while you’re using the product. If you want to raise and change the G512 Carbon’s typing angle, there are two sturdy and wide feet present.
When you look at the top right corner of the keyboard, you’ll see a USB passthrough. This feature is often missing on similar products within this price range. The keyboard comes with a thick and braided cable that protrudes over its right side close to the USB port. We consider this a smart design since it makes it more convenient for cords to go around your monitor’s stand.

Hands-On with the Logitech G512 Carbon
Here is the part of our Logitech G512 Carbon review where we get more hands-on with the G512 Carbon. It’s also where we’ll provide in-depth details about the product to help decide if it’s something necessary for your needs.
First, let’s take a look at the G HUB software.
Logitech G HUB Software
The G512 Carbon is compatible with the G HUB software. Thus, it allowed us to use this for recording macros and customising RGB lights. We appreciate that Logitech made the software straightforward and easy to use. With that, it would be even better if the menu choices and buttons featured labels as well.
G HUB allowed for the company’s LIGHTSYNC function to sync the G512 Carbon’s RGB lights to other Logitech products. It also let us disable additional keys and record macros for the Game Mode.
Since Logitech has an extensive collection of accessible games via their software, we quickly dragged commands to specific F-keys. It let us easily assign frequently utilised pretty convenient functions. Aside from this, we also assigned text blocks, multi-key macros, and mouse functions to the keys. Plus, it’s great that the keyboard has a dedicated “Gaming” mode that switches off the Windows key, etc. The other keys that interfered with our gaming could also be switched off.
Of course, the highlight of the software is its function of RGB light customisation. We were able to select colours on a per-key basis, and we also chose some from the available presets.
Performance
In terms of performance, the keyboard was highly responsive, and we enjoyed its tactile feedback, which is perfect for gaming. The well-spaced keys, the rubber feet, and the keyboard’s weight prevented it from sliding on our desk. Each key worked excellently and our gaming experience improved, especially after disabling specific keys that we often press by accident.
For the software, we didn’t have any issues with this. It was easy to use, and we were able to easily make changes on the keyboard’s settings. The keyboard worked well even with the new settings we applied, including the RGB customisation.
As expected from Logitech, the G512 Carbon delivered exactly what they advertised. Although they didn’t remake the wheel for this model, they made a solid keyboard with impressive features. Overall, the Logitech G512 Carbon is an excellent keyboard, and we’re giving five stars for its superb performance.
Logitech G512 Carbon Review Summary
Once again, Logitech created another superb keyboard with the G512 Carbon. This mechanical gaming keyboard comes with a fantastic range of features, and you can choose from three types of switches. Its tactile response and performance were impressive, which makes it great for gaming and simple typing tasks.
Aside from that, it also has a nice build that feels durable and reliable. With its excellent construction and premium feel, we believe that we won’t need to replace this keyboard for several years.
If you’re in the market for gaming peripherals to for your rig, the G512 is one of the best choices. It has the aesthetics, durability, incredible features, user-friendly software, customisable buttons, and more. Although it doesn’t come with extras like a wrist rest, it didn’t cause discomfort, so we enjoyed using it.
