ASUS released four GO headsets specifically for gamers, and they range from wireless and wired options. But here in our ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset review, we’re reviewing the Strix GO BT headset.
The BT in its name stands for Bluetooth, and among the other headsets under the GO line, it’s more simple. Despite this, it still offers a host of excellent features that every gamer would love.
These include the current Bluetooth 5.0, noise cancellation, Qualcomm’s aptX, and more. Sounds like something you need? If so, continue reading our ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset review to see if it’s something for you.
ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset Packaging
Let’s begin our ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset review with its packaging and its contents.
When we got our Strix GO BT, it came in your typical-looking ROG box. The front displays an image of the headset at the centre. Then, the model’s name and ROG’s logo is set on the box’s corners.
The rear displays additional details about the Strix GO BT. This is pretty convenient, especially when you’re purchasing headsets from a physical store.
Inside the box, the Strix GO BT headset is packed protectively, along with its other accessories. These include an aeroplane adapter, charging cable, a 3.5mm audio cable, plus a compact carrying case. The latter is durable enough to protect the headset; plus, it helps keep everything organised.
This ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset review will also tackle the design and functions of the headset. And that’s what we’re looking into, next.
ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset Review – Design and Functionality
Compared to other similar products, the ROG Strix GO BT headset sports a minimalist design. The company decided to tone things down, leaving this product without LED light sync and too much styling.
In general, it appears like other Bluetooth headsets with foam-padded ear cups and headband, plus faux leather too. There’s a good combination of metal and plastic on the headset that goes well with its matte black finish. Overall, it displays a premium aesthetic anyone would appreciate.
The padding on the ear cups and headband is good. It’s comfortable enough to keep the headset on for hours. Do note that there’s a bit of a seal once you wear them. However, it doesn’t warm up the ears excessively, which is great.
It isn’t only comfortable, but the Strix GO BT is also relatively light at just 300g. Again, this will help keep the comfort when you wear the headset during extended game sessions.
The left ear cup has buttons featuring a volume rocker, a power button, and the playback control. Below the buttons is the 3.5mm auxiliary slot.
Note that there isn’t any slot for detachable microphones, but there are a couple of pinholes on the ear cups. These are essentially for positioning the microphones that you’ll use.
On the right-hand portion houses a Type-C port for its charging cable.
For the carrying case, it’s durable enough to protect the headset inside. Not only that, but it has adequate space to keep its cables and the included adapter.
It sports a minimalist appeal to keep the design uniform with the headset, only featuring an ROG logo in front.
We actually appreciate the minimalist approach since you can utilise the headset at work despite it being a gaming headset. It won’t draw too much attention, but it’s still stylish with a durable build.
Key Features of the ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset
This time on our ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset review, we’re discussing the product’s different key features.
Fully Immersive Audio
The ROG Strix GO BT from ASUS is an impressive gaming headset that offers unmatched listening experiences. Its audio is fully immersive, so you’ll feel like you’re in the game’s scene. With its high-quality Bluetooth, low latency, and Qualcomm aptX adaptive audio, you can ensure seamless gaming audio.
Aside from superior sound quality, the ROG Strix GO BT has active noise cancellation to keep you focused. Plus, it features ASUS’ proprietary AI Noise-Cancelling Microphone for clear in-game voice chat.
Active Noise Cancelling Technology
With the ANC technology, the headset lets you close out external noises to get fully immersed in your game. This feature works by blocking unwanted external noise that offers an authentic audio experience. It also excellently delivers high-frequency audio, while the low-frequency range is clear and defined.
The natural sound reproduction and uninterrupted listening bring your mobile gaming and entertainment to a whole new level.
Ultra Long Battery Life and Fast Charging
The ROG Strix GO BT’s 15-minute charge gives you up to five hours of playtime. When fully charged, this headset provides up to 45 hours of nonstop gaming.
Noise-Cancelling ASUS AI Mic
The ASUS AI mic comes with a dedicated processor that filters out more than 500 million kinds of background noise. At the same time, it preserves voice communication by enhancing the sound of human voices and reduces voice distortion. With that, you can have crystal-clear communication with your teammates.
ASUS Essence Drivers
The 40mm ASUS Essence drivers and exclusive airtight chambers deliver pure and rich audio with optimised deep bass. As a result, the ROG Strix GO BT offers an immersive audio experience.
Comfort and Portability
Since the ROG Strix GO BT is lightweight, you’ll experience unparalleled comfort during your longest and most intense gaming sessions. It also has a foldable design that makes it excellent for on-the-go use.
For added convenience, ASUS included a carrying case in its package to keep your headset protected and its accessories organised.
Let’s shift to the specifications and continue with our ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset review.
The material used for the Strix GO BT’s driver is a neodymium magnet. For its microphone, its pick-up pattern is an omnidirectional one.
ASUS incorporated one of the modern enhancements to their Strix GO BT. This is the Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio technology.
The presence of Bluetooth 5.0 already offers a number of excellent connectivity features, lower lag, and enhanced range. But the aptX technology gives the headset a significant impact when pairing these features.
Although the Strix GO BT was primarily designed for gamers, it still supports many other devices. These include smartphones, the Xbox, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and a lot more. It’s made possible via Bluetooth or a 3.5mm cable connection.
Next in our ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset review, we’re going to see how the Strix GO BT performed.
Hands-on with the ASUS ROG Strix GO BT Headset
There are two different ways of using the Strix GO BT headset. One is via Bluetooth pairing, and the other is by cable connection.
When powering the headset, press the power button until you enter the pairing mode. Then on your computer, search for a Bluetooth device to pick up the Strix GO BT headset. Once that’s done, you’re all set.
If you’re going for the cable, plug it into the headset, then connect it to the device you’re using. For units that need dual inputs for the mic and audio, you can use the included adapter in the package.
The Type-C plugs into the left ear cup while the USB goes to your computer, console, laptop, or charger.
The Strix GO BT headset focuses more on its mid-range than the bass or highs. It’s quite strange compared to other arrangements for most gaming headsets since the bass prioritises over everything else. This is likely due to gunshots and explosions being the dominant sounds in a lot of games.
Focusing on mids means that even sounds or voices are clearer. It isn’t a bad thing, but it all depends on what games you’re playing. But if you want the power of explosions and gunfire for immersive gameplay, you’ll need to do some fine-tuning first.
If you plan to do some tweaking other than those native to the linking devices, there’s a good option here. You can do this via the ASUS Armoury app, which you can find on the App Store and Play Store.
You can utilise the headset if you’re working remotely since its active noise-cancelling ear cups and microphone function efficiently. Of course, this will be highly convenient when using it for a gaming competition in tournaments.
The headset’s battery is just as ASUS claimed – a good 45-hour battery charge for continuous gameplay. So you’ll get two full days worth of playtime, and it’s something ideal for every gamer out there.
During the tests, 40-hours of playback was possible. It was a tricky test since the headset had to be connected the whole time while playing games. Hours of gameplay occurred, but the Strix GO BT proved itself to be a worthy product.
Its super-fast charging is also extremely convenient. You only need about 15 minutes of charge to get another five hours for gaming. Remember that it takes a bit over two hours to entirely charge it, which isn’t bad considering its battery life.
