JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Speaker Packaging
Before getting more in-depth with the speaker, our JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Speaker review will discuss its packaging and contents. We’re going to see what extras JBL included in the box this time.
The PartyBox On-The-Go that we have for this review comes with 2x wireless microphones. It arrived in a regular-looking cardboard box with a sticker that entirely covers the front portion.
This sticker features an image of the speaker itself, JBL’s branding, and the product’s name. Then, you’ll also find some of its key features listed below the image.
On the sides, you’ll find JBL’s branding and the speaker’s name again. You’ll also see a Hazard 9 label on this area.
In the box, you’ll find all the items, including the PartyBox On-The-Go speaker, packed nicely and neatly. It’s all organised so you won’t have any problems finding the items you need.
Aside from the speaker, other items in the box include a power cable, the microphones, and 2x AA batteries. Then, there’s a mic bag, plus the quick start guide.
JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Speaker Review – Design and Functionality
We can’t deny that the PartyBox On-The-Go is one beast of a speaker. So, we’re going to find out why in our JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Speaker review.
The speaker is considered as a portable product, but mind you, it isn’t lightweight. Thankfully, JBL set a shoulder strap on it to help when transporting the item from one place to another. Although its portability isn’t really that easy, the speaker’s capabilities and features it offers are well-worth the effort.
PartyBox On-The-Go’s build is mostly made from durable and high-quality plastic. Its front speaker grille is made from metal, most likely aluminium, while the back has a faux leather covering. About the front speaker grille, you’ll find it behind the grille where the LED light is housed.
The base features four sturdy feet that keeps the speaker planted on a levelled surface.
On each side of the speaker, you’ll find carrying handles so you can shift the PartyBox On-The-Go easily. On its rear, there’s a weather-protected port array that keeps the AUX, power, and USB-A ports.
At the top of the speaker is a lengthy channel for holding your device. An iPhone 12 Pro Max will fit in it perfectly even with a case. So, consider it as a basis for measuring if your mobile device will fit the speaker.
Additionally, the PartyBox On-the-Go is long enough to hold a few tablets, though it depends on how thick they are. However, we suggest that you place the tablet on landscape rather than portrait to keep it safe from sudden falls.
The speaker comes with a number of wired inputs. One is the 3.5mm AUX port that allows you to plug your phone right into the speaker. Then, there’s the USB-A port that lets you utilise the speaker as a charging port for other devices.
Lastly, it comes with a guitar-in 1/4″ port and a mic-in 1/4″ port. Both of these have knobs used for adjusting the gain.
There are adequate controls available on the speaker, and they’re found on the sides of the product. All buttons are easy to press, and they’re for adjusting volume, switching the speaker on/off, and pairing Bluetooth devices.
It even comes with a play/pause button that when pressed twice, skips a track. If you press thrice, it will skip to the previous track. However, you can’t skip tracks when using the speaker in AUX mode.
Pressing the volume buttons simultaneously will mute the speaker.
There’s a Bass Boost button available, as well as a button for charging the RGB light pattern. The PartyBox On-The-Go also has dials for adjusting treble, echo, and bass. However, these only adjust the mic levels and not the audio you’re listening to.
At the top of the power button, you’ll see a light indicating the speaker’s battery life. Theen, the RGB glows whenever you adjust the volume, and the speaker chimes when you reach max volume. Unfortunately, JBL didn’t include an indicator for when your speaker reaches the minimum volume.

Hands-on with the JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Speaker
It’s important to know how well (or not) a product performs especially when it’s being used on a regular basis. That’s why we tested the speaker for more than a week. So, we’re sharing our experience with it here in this JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Speaker review.
The PartyBox On-The-Go delivered loud audio just like how it should. Its volume was adequate for outdoor environments and house parties which was excellent. The bass was emphasised and easily noticeable, so music sounded more powerful too.
We liked the enhanced bass on its sound profile since it kept the party going. Despite the highlight on the bass, it didn’t overpower other frequencies and drown out vocals, guitars, and other instuments.
Thanks to JBL Pro Sound technology, the PartyBoost On-The-Go’s audio was also clear. It was excellent when we used it for regular music listening at home. After testing it, we can say that it’s great for small events like outdoor parties.
Of course, we also tested the wireless microphones for our JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Speaker review. To our surprise, these sounded excellent for wireless microphones. Although there was slight lag, it was mostly unnoticeable and wasn’t a big issue for us.
The PartyBox On-The-Go’s Bluetooth connectivity was good. When we paired two devices simultaneously, we didn’t experience any problems. We found this useful especially when switching between different audio sources
For iOS and Android devices, its latency was high so we wouldn’t suggest using the speaker when watching videos. However, some apps may also compensate for latency and give you different results.

The PartyBox On-The-Go from JBL is one of the most versatile portable speakers we’ve used. When we tested it for our JBL PartyBox On-The-Go Speaker review, it delivered clear audio output that sounded great.
