While gathering details about the product for our Reolink RLN16-410 NVR Review, we discovered it has two versions. The first is RLN16-410 (4K version), which supports all 4k, 5MP, and 4MP IP Reolink cameras. Then the other is a 5MP version that only works with 5MP/4MP IP cameras.
Other than the NVR, you can opt for up to 16 cameras to establish your video surveillance system.
Despite having the same name as the old NVR, the current version still has its own set of unique elements. The current RLN16-410 has another kind of hardware supporting intelligent AI motion-sensing technology.
This difference between models confused some users. They were unaware that the older version does not function with the Smart motion-sensing feature of Reolink cameras.
Design-wise, the RLN16-410 appears like the first version. It means you will still see its metallic, rectangular-shaped compact case that can fit any shelf.
At only 25.9 x 23.11 x 4.06cm, the RLN16-410 will not occupy too much space. Despite this, ensure it stays in an area with adequate space. It is necessary since you need to plug several Ethernet cables into its rear panel.
The product sports a black matte finish that gives off an industrial design, save for its plastic front panel. The latter helps distance the RLN16-410 from standard Ethernet switches.
You will also find several fan cut-outs, but you will not find one installed. The NVR relies solely on passive cooling, making it run silently.
The good news is that the product retains adequate temperature. Of course, it will get warm when you link more PoE cameras. However, it will never overheat, which is perfect.

Adjacent to the infrared receiver are two indicators: the Power and HDD LED. A consistently solid red illumination of the HDD LED signifies that the hard disk drive is currently inactive. Conversely, a flashing red HDD LED indicates ongoing data storage from the cameras onto the hard drive.
Shifting towards the right, you will see the play/pause control – an invaluable asset for video perusal. Adjacent is the view mode switch, which helps you alter the simultaneous cams you can view in real-time. Subsequently, you will find the menu and select functions, succeeded by directional keys for easy menu controls.

Hands-on with the Reolink RLN16-410 NVR
We tested the product for our Reolink RLN16-410 NVR Review and observed its performance for a week. We used it multiple times to determine if it was worth considering. But before we discuss how well it works, let us focus on its installation process.
Installing the RLN16-410 was easier than we expected and was more convenient than setting up the cameras. We connected multiple cameras for this test to see how the NVR would handle them.
We first connected a monitor to the RLN16-410 and the mouse provided in the package. Next, we linked our cameras and set these up via the Reolink app. Surprisingly, the NVR immediately recognised the cameras on the local network.
After connecting our cameras, we configured their settings and observed how well the RLN8-410 would perform.
The Reolink App, Reolink Client, and the web interface do not differ significantly. After connecting the cameras to the proper channels, monitoring our surroundings via our PC monitor and mobile application was easy.
The Audio & Light option is where you will find settings for the IR LEDs, spotlight, and microphones. Under Surveillance, you can adjust the storage settings on the HDD and choose what will trigger the cameras. You will also find network-related settings, configure System settings, and see the remaining storage space.
The Windows utility, Reolink Client, has these settings, but unlike the web interface, it allows viewing multiple cameras. The Reolink App for mobile also allows watching simultaneous streams, but it has a different layout.
Regardless of your device, the software displays all the cameras connected to the NVR. It also allows configuring the settings of each IP camera and some general NVR-related settings.

Investing in an NVR like the RLN16-410 is an excellent choice if you have multiple Reolink PoE cameras. It eliminates having to save recordings on microSD cards or cloud storage. Plus, it is more than enough if you do not need more than eight camera channels.
