Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless Headphones Review – Design and Functionality

The functions and design of a product are essential to most users. So we’re discussing these in our Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless Headphones review too.

After we’ve unboxed the product, we saw that the headphones are stylish and elegant. Although it sports a more simple design compared to other headphones, it gives off a very high-end and premium aesthetic.

The top of the headband and both ear cups are concealed with extremely soft synthetic suede. For the bottom portion of the headband, Beyerdynamic opted for a fine mesh material instead.

The materials used are hard plastic cups and cloth that’s similarly textured to Alcantara for the headband and pads. Plus, they used light silver metal for the headphones’ gimbals. It’s an incredibly sturdy product and weighs a solid 380g.

And although it’s considered to have an ultra-rigid design, the Amiron wireless is still fairly flexible.

These headphones are pretty well-built and have a notably premium design that’s mostly made from metal and durable plastic. It also features a smooth and top-notch matte finish which makes it look more premium.

The Amiron wireless headphones are comfortable to wear. And, these do not put excess pressure on your ears due to clamping force.

The product even feels reasonably light. So, you can imagine just how good and comfortable it’ll be for long listening sessions. It’s also something that’ll benefit those wearing eyeglasses which is pretty convenient.

Do note that the headphones are more on the bulky side, and aren’t that light. However, they’re still well-padded and properly distribute pressure across the top of your head.

When it comes to functionality, its left ear cup is left entirely blank, save for the company’s logo. On its right ear cup, it houses the power/Bluetooth-pairing button, USB-C input, 3.5mm input, and touch-sensitive pad. The latter is specifically positioned on the side so you can control music playback easily.

Its touch-sensitive part is metal, and it somehow feels like the Macbook Pro’s trackpad.

The headphones’ controls are fairly intuitive: just tap the touch surface twice and it’ll play or pause your audio. Aside from that, it can accept or end a call.

When you do longer presses, it’ll activate the voice assistant of your device. If not, it’ll switch between active callers.

To play the previous or next tracks, simply drag your fingers left or right. When you move them up or down, you can increase and decrease the volume. If you drag then hold your finger to the right or left, it’ll move back or forward within the track.

The headphones can utilise a wired connection thanks to the 3.5mm cable that’s included in the package. A plus here is that its wired connection you can use even when the battery’s completely depleted.

Do note that this cable is a bit short at just 1.2m. It’s a detachable 4-pole mini stereo jack single-entry that features a pressure-based lock. This is different from the usual twist-and-turn system that’s present on similar products.

When it comes to the cable itself, you’ll see a little in-line module. This is specifically for the mic operation and remote playback, so the headphones are smartphone compatible. You’ll notice that it’s quite high on the cable, so you can’t really see the module when you’re operating it.

A Unique Listening Experience with the MIY App

Beyerdynamic developed the Amiron wireless headset’s design with German experts from Mimi Hearing Technologies in Berlin. Their goal was to design headphones that can perfectly adapt to every person’s hearing like a custom-tailored suit.

This goal is consistent with Beyerdynamic’s motto for their wireless line of headphones: Make it yours.

To do this, they further enhanced tonal perfection. This is necessary since the latest audiology research has shown that everyone has different hearing that also changes over time.

Personalising Your Audio with Ease

The Amiron wireless headset’s audio can be enhanced with the MIY (Make It Yours) application. It’s available for smartphones and tablets that support iOS and Android.

Through this app, you can create an individual hearing profile via a special hearing test. This was based on Mimi Hearing Technologies’ research to perfectly adapt to the user’s hearing ability.

These headphones are also useful and suitable for use with modern TVs that support Bluetooth. The reason for this is its capability to handle low delay transmission with aptX LL. Hooking the Amiron wireless headphones up with the detachable cable also supports High-Res audio.

Unparalleled Sound Quality with Tesla

With Tesla transducers, the Amiron wireless headphones offer listeners with precise, deep bass, naturally full mids, and clear mids. The soft cushions provide comfort while surrounding the ear to support the headphones’ rich acoustic detail. As a result, the headphones reduce ambient noise to prevent the loss of any musical nuance.

When using the Amiron wireless headphones, gentle plucking of guitar strings or a singer’s quiet breathing. This will make you immersed in the music through the headphones’ audio presence and 3D effect.

The headphones sport a circumaural sound-coupling to the ears and have a THD that’s <0.05% @ 500Hz. The Bluetooth version is 4.2, and it sports a 2.0 power class.

For its frequency range, the Amiron wireless headphones mark it from 2,400 to 2,4835 GHz. Its operating range is up to 10m while the battery runtime is over 30 hrs.

Speaking of its battery, its charge time is two hours while its capacity is 1050 mAh. The headphones use a USB-C charging port and have a 1.2m detachable 4-pole mini stereo jack that’s 3.5mm-long.

Supported profiles include HSP, A2DP, HFP, AVRCP, and GAVDP while codecs include aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD, SBC, and AAC. In addition, the product operates at 0 to 40-degrees Celsius.

It’s quite hefty at 380g and that’s without the cable. But nevertheless, the Beyerdynamic Amiron wireless headphones are still comfy to use. This time, our Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless Headphones review will discuss the performance of this product.

We’ll see how well it performed, and if it’s something worth purchasing.

Hands-on with the Beyerdynamic Amiron Wireless Headphones

MIY App

The headphones make use of the MIY App, and it’s probably one of the best ones we’ve used. A lot of headphones come with their own accompanying application. However, the MIY App feels like a really useful and reliable one.

During the setup, we first had to go through a hearing test to check the left and right ears. This is done to see how much our ears can actually hear.

There, it adjusted our music and audio accordingly, allowing us to get the full enjoyable experience of using these headphones. As we’ve mentioned a lot of times before, each one of us hears differently. So seeing Beyerdynamic taking the initiative of resolving this difference is actually great.

Of course, just ensure that the application and your stock BT connections are all paired. If not, some of the features might not work.

Here’s an example: the little start-up checker features a device initialiser. It will stall then freeze the application if you initialise when the headphones aren’t linked to your BT source.

Audio Quality

We listened to a variety of music genres: from classical, pop, to hard rock, alternative, and pretty much everything in-between. And all we can say is that the Amiron wireless headphones performed consistently and excellently.

Its closed-back design was able to produce outstanding results in terms of tuning bias and tonality. These kinds of headphones often display a bit of bass density, and this is the case with the Amiron wireless headphones.

It’s a U-shaped presentation with a bit of a warm-sounding signature that’s pulled from a raised low-end. This also has an emphasised bump that’s about 100Hz.

The headphones have an accurate and tight bass as well as sub-bass that’s clear. Though its bass is slightly accentuated, we still can’t really consider it to be a product that’s bass-heavy.

After all, the Amiron wireless headphones are designed for audiophiles. And, we know that you guys don’t want the bass overshading all other frequencies that are present.

When it comes to its mids, they’re simply amazing. This is especially true on the acoustic instruments and vocals which get an incredibly lifelike vibe to them.

When it comes to the highs, they’re clean and open. The frequency response of the headphones is just curved adequately to provide a fantastic listening experience.

Each frequency range is precise, fast, and highly detailed. And, all this magic can be experienced on a soundstage that feels wide and vast. In fact, the audio is so incredible that there isn’t any difference when shifting between wireless and wired modes.

Battery Life

For its battery, it performed just as great despite not having any power-saving features like standby mode or auto-off timers.

And even if Beyerdynamic didn’t really specify how long the headphones’ battery life is, it’s all good. Though they did mention that it’s greater than 30 hours of continuous usage.

In addition, the headphones can also be utilised passively together with a standard audio cable. So, we were still able to use it when we wanted to go for a wired connection.

During our tests, we received a total of 26 hours while having the volume raised at 100%. From there, it’s easy to say that the Amiron wireless headphones can definitely last longer if we listened at regular volumes.

Connectivity

For its Bluetooth connectivity, the company didn’t skimp out on the good stuff. Since Beyerdynamic greatly prioritises sound quality, the headphones have most of the necessary Bluetooth streaming codecs, save for the LDAC. This is because LDAC is kept exclusive to Sony.

With that, we still get aptX HD, aptX, aptX LL, AAC, and SBC.

Pairing the headphones is painless and quick. We started by linking it the classic way through the sources BT pairing service. The devices we used with the Amiron wireless headphones were immediately paired with the headphones.

There were no issues or problems during the process which was pretty convenient.

The Amiron wireless headphones make use of the BT4.2 standard. This is why we could easily hook it to two sources simultaneously.

Here, we tried using one of our music players and a smartphone to connect. We were able to switch from devices easily and seamlessly,

For connection strength, it was outstanding too without any unexpected drops from close distances. Its distance performance was top-notch from all the sources we tested: from music players, smartphones, etc.

We were able to go about five to six metres with a single wall between us and the source. We didn’t encounter any issues or drops and that was good.

When we went eight to 10 metres without a wall, it took quite some time even before the signal dropped. So basically, it’s just as great as other BT4.2 devices that we’ve tried out.
