Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset Review – Design and Functionality

Like always, Beyerdynamic delivers products with excellent design aesthetics. You can choose between a black/light grey version of this closed, over-ear product with dynamic 40mm drivers.

While you continue reading our Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset Review, you will know the standard Beyerdynamic aesthetic. The MMX 200 features a solid and sturdy body that is plastic.

It has a headband made from memory foam covered with faux leather. The product is not flimsy or creaky since it connects firmly to a bracket. It also sports a stiff aluminium suspension yet allows you to adjust the headset size based on your preference.

Conveniently, you can adjust the headband in eleven steps. It has suspended speaker pods. Plus, its ear pads have memory foam covered in faux leather.

Generally, it has a simple design: a headset with one detachable mic and a fixed foam cover. Beyerdynamic included a USB-C port for charging, an analogue connection, and a volume dial. Pressing the latter is necessary to manage calls, mute the mic, and playback.

The MMX 200 also features a button to switch between connections.

Although its cups do not rotate, the product is comfortable and easily adjustable for a better fit. Its headband does not squeeze around the head too tightly – a common problem among users when wearing headsets.

However, we noticed that its faux leather cover gave us a bit of sweaty ears. It may differ for each person since other users claimed that sweating lessened for them.

Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset Connection Modes

While studying its design for our Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset Review, we learned it offers three connection modes. These include Low Latency, Hybrid, and Bluetooth Mode.

The first mode requires you to use a dongle, which you can find in the package. You can use it on your PC, PlayStation, Mac, or the Switch. You can quickly pair it without any drop-outs, even if you are 25m away or have walls in between.

Key Features of the Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset

In this Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset Review, we listed the features that make this headset worth considering. These elements are excellent for gamers who want quality and comfort in a single package.

Professional Sound In Every Gaming Environment

The MMX 200 is specifically designed for gamers by the acousticians of Beyerdynamic. It features a built-in 40mm studio driver system offering a comprehensive and excellent soundscape.

This feature is excellent during gaming since it optimises voice communication, music, and movie viewing.

META VOICE Microphone

This specific mic steps up voice transmission to a new level thanks to its 9.9 capsule. The latter renders voices to make them appear lifelike and natural, while disruptive ambient noise receives suppression.

Moreover, this feature is a detachable piece. It will not be in the way while you watch movies or listen to music.

You can still make calls during these times since the integrated mic activates when the META VOICE is disconnected. Doing so allows you to stay reachable at all times.

Smart Controls of the Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset

The wireless control of the MMX 200 is effortless and precise because of its control wheel. This feature allows volume adjustments without disrupting your gaming session. Furthermore, it also manages the Augmented Mode and mute function.

The META LINK SWITCH ensures optimal wireless connectivity when facilitating a smooth transition between Bluetooth, low latency, and hybrid mode. To optimise the gaming experience, you can individually choose the second mode via the META LINK SWITCH.

The available USB dongle is ideal for latency control. Plus, it is compatible with consoles, PCs, or other USB devices. It ensures a lag-free connection between visuals and audio.

META LINK CONNECT

This technology offers a top-notch high-speed wireless connection. You can create connections with different devices with the three modes (Bluetooth, hybrid, and low latency).

Augmented Mode

The mode offers a distinct experience by mixing ambient audio with in-game sounds. There are also Augmented mode mics in each ear cup. These capture the surroundings, allowing you to enhance your awareness around you.

Hands-on with the Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset

We used the product for a week to give you a better idea of how it performs. It helped us gather information about the product, which we will share in our Beyerdynamic MMX 200 Wireless Headset Review.

If there is one notable aspect about the MMX 200, it is its audio quality. It is because Beyerdynamic has a record for providing users with excellent-quality headphones and gaming headsets. So, you can expect it from this product too.

The MMX 200 has similar specifications to other wireless gaming headsets. Specifically, its 40mm drivers and the 20Hz to 20,000Hz frequency range.

Generally, it is all in the tuning, and Beyerdynamic does a great job at it. You will not need equalisation adjustments since it also has a wide soundstage. It will let you enjoy solid lows with crisp mids and highs without distortions at high volumes.

The MMX 200 offers a crisp, subdued bass range that plays cleanly. However, it does not go overboard with sub-basses or deep explosions.

Its highs and mids are nicely present, so dialogues and all types of noises are understandable. Of course, it also presented outstanding precision. So, even as just a stereo headset, it never gave us problems localising the audio and movements of the opponents.

Interestingly, even game scenes with extremely hectic activities and environments did not throw off the MMX 200.

Thanks to its 9.9mm capsule and the cardioid pickup pattern, we were pleased with its mic performance. Our voices exhibited a natural quality, with only minimal background keyboard noise.

The product has a relatively large 10mm condenser capsule with a cardioid pattern. So, the headset mic stands out with its broad frequency response range of 50Hz to 18kHz. It is a better feature, unlike the usual 100Hz to 10kHz in gaming headsets.

This broader range results in a richer, more natural-sounding voice, capturing both the lows and highs. While lacking software equalisation for chat optimisation, it excels in blocking background noise, even without explicit noise cancellation features.

You will also find an optimised mode that uses the secondary internal mic. It allows ambient sounds to filter through the isolating earpads.

Like transparency modes, digital processing enhances various sounds, such as the amplified noise of my keyboard when I press keys. The integrated microphone, designed for Bluetooth connectivity to a mobile device, is excellent for outdoor use without the boom microphone. It is decent since it falls within the standard performance range for microphones of this kind.
