QIDI recently added a new product to their collection. Its build volume sits between the X-Smart 3 and X-Plus 3. Plus, it integrates optimisations in its hardware, among several notable features.

QIDI Q1 Pro Review – Design and Functionality

After unboxing the product for this QIDI Q1 Pro Review, we noticed its similarity with other X-line printers. It is made from sheet metal and has a plastic printing chamber. What makes it different is it is a desktop-level 3D printer.

The standout feature of this product is the active chamber heating. We were surprised to see this since active chamber heating is usually only on more expensive 3D printers. 

The Q1 Pro is a pre-assembled product ready to print out of the box. It has dual sensors and supports automatic bed levelling, eliminating complex assembly and calibration. With dual Z-axis motors, you can achieve high precision and advanced stabilisation.

Direct Drive Extruder

The extruder design of the Q1 Pro resembles the one in the X-Max 3. It uses dual gears to allow the extruder to grip the filament better.

The front cover of the print head features a 5015 radial fan for part cooling. Two plastic tabs and two magnets hold the fan at the top of the 3D printer.

CoreXY Motion System with Automatic Belt Tensioning

Like other 3D printers QIDI released in late 2023, the Q1 Pro has a CoreXY motion system, which is best for fast printing. QIDI made improvements to this feature by adding automatic belt tensioners. These have a strong spring pushing against belt tensioners to maintain the same tension on both belts.

High-Flow Hot End and Dual-metal Nozzle of the QIDI Q1 Pro

The all-metal hot end of the Q1 Pro differs from the one in the X-Max 3. Instead of a ring heater, it has a flat heater on the side of the melt zone. This hot end reaches 350°C, making it ideal for filaments requiring high printing temperatures. 

QIDI also changed the nozzle and used a dual-metal variant. Its tip is made of hardened material, while the body uses plated copper. These materials aid in thermal transfer to produce high-quality prints.

On the specifications, QIDI claims the highest volumetric flow of this high-flow hot end is 30 mm3/s. However, we did not reach this number when we tested the 3D printer for this QIDI Q1 Pro Review. Despite that, it delivered close results with the recommended temperatures and filaments.

Filament Runout Sensor and Tangle Detection

One of the best improvements added to the Q1 Pro is the filament runout sensor with tangle detection. It is in the rear of the 3D printer to monitor filament movement while printing. The sensor also detects clogging on the hot end or tangles on the filament spool.

In addition, the Q1 Pro has a secondary filament sensor above the extruder gears. It stops the print when the filament runs out and continues when you install a new spool.

Setting up the Q1 Pro was quick and only required a few steps. We only needed to remove the transport security screws from the bottom and the cable tie on the print head. Since it was pre-assembled, we already switched it on.
