SteelSeries has been showing off their lightweight collection of Aerox products early this year. One of them is the Aerox 9 wireless gaming mouse. It’s an awesome product we’ll check out and share with you in our SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse review.
This mouse arrived together with the Aerox 5 and Aerox Wireless. It’s also a departure from the company’s standard FPS or multi-genre mouse.
The Aerox 9 offers flexible and convenient utility that stays within the design language of Aerox. It’s also likely the first ultra-lightweight gaming mouse designed for the MMO/MOBA genre that weighs 89g.
So if you’re searching for this specific toolset, continue reading our SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse review. This is where you’ll get to learn more about its features, design, functions, and a lot more.
SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse Packaging
The mouse arrived in your typical SteelSeries Aerox box that sports an orange-grey theme. The front displays an image of the mouse along with SteelSeries and the product’s name written.
It’s a sturdy and durable package, so you won’t have to worry about anything getting damaged during shipping.
When we started unboxing it for our SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse review, we couldn’t help but get eager. We wanted to see how nice the product was, and we also wanted to try it out asap.
Inside, the Aerox 9 stays in place since it’s set in a perfectly fit slot. It won’t move about nor will it get disorganised with the other contents in the package.
Other than the mouse, you’ll find a product information guide and a USB Type-C dongle inside. There’s also a USB Type-C to A super mesh data/charging cable plus an extension adapter as well.
SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse Review – Design and Functionality
The Aerox 9 sports a right-handed shape and is made for those wanting a comfortable and lightweight mouse for precision. Inspecting its design for our SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse review, it has the usual honeycomb-style we love. It’s also a good thing to have since this is what helps the mouse achieve its lightweight form.
Also, the honeycomb design displays the interior hardware of the mouse which is nicely protected with an IP54 AquaBarrier. It’s a feature that secures and covers the mouse from oil, dust, dirt, and water.
The flashy feature of the mouse is the 18 buttons available.
The side buttons of the mouse are completely replaced with 12 chunky buttons to help with your MOBA gaming. These are on the left side which are all laid out in a 4×3 grid.
At first glance, it appears like a small extra. However, it’s aimed at MOBA and MMO players who want to make use of number buttons/other keyboard commands.
Proper Placement for Comfort and Convenience
What’s most impressive about the product’s design is how well and excellent the buttons are positioned. Plus, they’re also very easy to use because of their placement. Even if they’re stacked on top of each other in a little space, they’re still easy to tell apart.
This is made possible thanks to the subtle distinctive features of the buttons.
The top row is small and recessed into the shell while the middle features a smooth curve along the top. Then for the bottom row, it holds buttons that are a bit wider than the others.
The CPI switch of the mouse is also convenient and can be found behind its wheel. This allows us to switch between five sensitivity levels with just a quick tap. When we feel like things are moving too fast/slow while playing, we can just tap this to make changes.
To continue, there are two adequately sized mouse feet and a single ring at the centre along the mouse’s sensor. And like other quality gaming mice, SteelSeries utilises 100% virgin PTFE for its mouse feet to guarantee smooth gliding.
If you love RGBs, then you’ll enjoy the Aerox 9 since it has a lot of it. These shine from the base of the product, all the way through the back. Additionally, the RGBs are divided into three different zones and can be fully customised via the SteelSeries GG Software.

Specifications
We looked at all its important details and specifications for our SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse review. The first thing we noticed was its optical SteelSeries TrueMove Air sensor which is considered one of the best sensors around. The company also used ABS plastic for its core construction, making the mouse have a solid and sturdy build.
It has a CPI of 100 to 18,000 in 100 CPI increments, plus 400 IPS on SteelSeries QcK surfaces. The Aerox 9 also has a 40G acceleration which is accompanied by a 1,000Hz/1ms polling rate.
SteelSeries utilised mechanical switches for the mouse and are rated for 80 million clicks. The mouse also comes with three RGB zones for illumination which is quite stunning in our opinion.
For its dimensions, the Aerox 9 weighs 89g and is 128.8mm long. In front, the mouse is 62.8mm wide while the back measures 68.2mm. Then for its height, the mouse is 26.7mm in front, then it’s 42.10mm high along the rear.
The connection it uses is Bluetooth 5.0/2.4GHz. For its battery life, the mouse can last up to 80 hours (2.4GHz) and up to 180 hours (Bluetooth).
Hands-on with the SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse
Before sharing our hands-on experience, our SteelSeries Aerox 9 Wireless Gaming Mouse review will first discuss the software. SteelSeries made it easier to map tons of buttons on gaming mice with the help of their GG software.
The app allows you to create as many control profiles as needed while also mapping buttons at a system level.
If something isn’t working or if something isn’t set right, simply access the app. Then, make your quick changes, save, and you’re all set. This can also be applied to the RGB lights, the Aerox 9’s sleep timer, and a lot more.
When we finally sat down to try and test the Aerox 9, it certainly worked just how it should. It was able to skate smoothly across our desk even if it felt a bit heavier than what we expected. When it came to aiming and pointing at a precise spot in games, it was perfectly satisfying.
The Aerox 9’s button clicks were highly responsive so we definitely knew that all our actions were being carried out. Then, another standout feature of the mouse is its 180-hour battery life plus the quick charge of 15 minutes.
We couldn’t test the mouse for that long but it was able to last without charging for four-and-a-half days. Quick charge was also true since it took us just a couple of minutes to get some power into it. Once done, we were ready for gaming action in no time.
Since all its buttons were positioned adequately, we didn’t make mistakes of clicking other unnecessary buttons during heated gaming sessions. And since these were soft and clicky, each press we made was audible, and everything was also well-registered.
Its wireless connection was splendid, and its cursor moved smoothly across our screen. We’ve been playing a variety of games during our tests. With this mouse, we had a great level of control over travel, and it was simply exceptional.
Do note, if you’re going for serious gaming action, stick with the 2.4GHz settings. Then, go for Bluetooth if you’re just casually gaming and want to preserve the mouse’s 180-hour battery a bit longer.
